What is Helldivers 2?
Helldivers 2 is an online cooperative third-person shooter in which you take on the role of a Helldiver, a lightly-trained, heavily armed and armored piece of cannon fodder sent forth against the enemies of Super Earth. You’ll go toe-to-toe with Automatons and Terminids across numerous unique planets, tackling missions ranging from bug hunts to supply chain disruption.
To accomplish your missions, you have a large and growing selection of weapons, including ballistic and laser weaponry, airborne Stratagems, sentry turrets, and support weapons such as shoulder-mounted anti-tank cannons. You’ll work solo or as part of a team of up to four players to complete each mission, earning credits and samples to upgrade your equipment and ship after each battle.

Helldivers 2 Tips and Tricks
As you step into the boots of a Helldiver, you may find yourself thinking, “This isn’t too tough.” In some ways, you’re correct. Helldivers 2 offers an enjoyable and straightforward experience, which is part of why it’s blown up immensely over the past few months.
Still, there’s room for help. There’s nothing wrong with looking up one of the many Helldivers 2 guides on The Guide Hall. We’re players like you, and we occasionally have questions or scratch our heads when it comes time to unlock a new Stratagem. Which one do we choose first? Let us help you help Super Earth!
- Helldivers 2 is a live-service game done right, which means that while you can purchase premium currency (Super Credits) using real money, you can earn them in-game by completing side objectives and exploring points of interest scattered around the map. We recommend saving your Super Credits to unlock a Premium Warbond. It costs 1,000 Super Credits per Premium Warbond, and then you spend Warbond Medals to unlock cosmetics, emotes, and equipment within each.
- Helldivers 2 is a cooperative game at its heart. As such, while you can play solo, you’ll have the most enjoyment and success when playing with a cohesive group. It’s rare to find a troll in the game, as most players still serving Super Earth fight for Managed Democracy with the utmost authenticity and care. They take their role as a Helldiver seriously, as should you.
- When you drop into a mission, focus on finishing the primary objective first. Once that’s done, the mission is considered “complete.” However, you don’t have to extract. You shouldn’t. Instead, it would be best if you spent some time exploring the map in search of points of interest where you can acquire Super Credits, Requisition Slips, Samples, and Warbond Medals.
- It’s fun to bring along the biggest support weapon imaginable—something that goes boom!—but if you’re finding it difficult to survive against either Automatons or Terminids, consider choosing a Personal Shield Generator. It’s a helpful tool that boosts your survivability tenfold.
- Have fun! Most people playing Helldivers 2 focus on the role-playing aspect, but they’re here to have fun. It’s a video game. If you prefer to fight Terminids over Automatons, don’t let anyone berate you into switching sides on the Galaxy Map!
The Guide Hall positively loves Helldivers 2 and will continue covering and supporting the game well into the future! We’ll see you on Malevelon Creek, Helldivers!
