While you likely won’t spend much time in first person with your chosen weapon, meaning it takes something of a backseat, it’s still nice knowing you have a broad selection. As you progress across the galaxy, earning Medals and working through the boards, you’ll inevitably unlock new guns in Helldivers 2!
How to Unlock New Weapons in Helldivers 2
To unlock new weapons in Helldivers 2, you must spend Medals in the Helldivers Mobilize Warbond and Steeled Veterans Warbond. The former is the free tier available to anyone who owns the game, and the latter is available to those who either purchase the Super Citizen Edition or pay for Super Credits to buy the battle pass itself. Either way, you’ll unlock additional primary and secondary weapons by moving up each tier.
That said, you’ll unlock more weapons via the free battle pass, Helldivers Mobilize, than with the premium battle pass. Spending your Warbond Medals to unlock these weapons as they grow stronger with each tier is absolutely worthwhile.
After a while, you can unlock the SG-225 Breaker Shotgun!

Best Guns in Helldivers 2
While every weapon in Helldivers 2 proves effective at dealing with both the Terminids and Automatons, some stand a cut above the rest. I recommend rushing to unlock the following:
- SG-225 Breaker Shotgun
- AR-23P Liberator Penetrator
- P-19 Redeemer
- AR-23 Liberator
- SMG-37 Defender
- MP-98 Knight
These weapons stem from a variety of categories, including shotguns, assault rifles, and submachine guns. They all offer exceptional stopping power, capable of taking down any bug menace in your path.
