What is Cult of the Lamb?

Cult of the Lamb is a roguelike or roguelite, depending on how you look at its core gameplay mechanics, in which you take on the role of the last lamb. You’ll face off against false prophets by exploring and conquering dungeons of varying sizes. Each one is unique, with randomly generated maps, enemy density, and equipment loadouts to choose from.

When you’re not busy slaying cultists and monsters inside of the dungeons, you’ll work tirelessly to build your cultist colony from the seemingly harmless woodland wildlife. You can recruit honey bees, deer, spiders, and more anthropomorphic beings to your cause. They’ll work for you, gathering resources, worshiping at your feet, and sacrificing themselves for the cause.

With side quests to complete, follower forms to unlock, boss enemies to defeat, and challenge runs to conquer, Cult of the Lamb provides a borderline addicting gameplay loop that managed to convert us to the roguelike genre.

Cult of the Lamb Tips and Tricks

A few Cult of the Lamb tips and tricks go a long way, especially if you’re new to the roguelike genre. From learning the game’s mechanics to spending way too much time on the base-building component, here are a few tips to help maximize your enjoyment and success in the roguelike:

  • A key mechanic in Cult of the Lamb revolves around growing your cult by drawing faith from your followers, feeding them homecooked meals, and constructing buildings, like tents and farms. You’ll unlock additional structures as you progress through the game, by completing dungeons and purchasing unlocks from merchants in the key hubs.
  • Speaking of farms, your followers require daily food to remain satisfied and faithful. You’ll likely have some trouble farming the land in the early game, but fishing—once unlocked—provides a bountiful harvest from the sea with little cooldown or challenge.
  • Don’t waste resources and time constructing decorations. They’re cosmetic and offer zero bonuses to your cult. Instead, focus on useful structures, and then build decorations in the end game once you’re running the same dungeons repeatedly.
  • As for the dungeons themselves, you’ll find the I-frames in Cult of the Lamb prove rather generous. Learn how and when to dodge-roll, then abuse the system for normal and boss encounters.
  • Don’t ignore the game’s side quests. They usually provide you with additional game mechanics and buffs that will help you progress deeper into the game.
  • If you often find your followers dissenting, use the Brainwashing Ritual from Sozo. It allows you to lock follower faith for a maximum of two days but costs 25 Menticide Mushrooms, found in Anura.

The Guide Hall adores Cult of the Lamb, and we’ll continue to support the game and publish guides when possible. Here’s hoping for a sequel!
