Is Ghost of Tsushima a Soulslike Game? – Answered

If you watch any gameplay—specifically combat—from Ghost of Tsushima, you might mistake it for a Soulslike. Its action-combat’s overall look and feel resembles Dark Souls or Elden Ring. Yet, it’s unique. Is Ghost of Tsushima a Soulslike game?

Is Ghost of Tsushima Like Dark Souls?

Despite its outward appearance, Ghost of Tsushima is not a Soulslike. It is not similar to Dark Souls, and the combat in the game is challenging yet more action-oriented. It’s its own thing, and that’s fantastic. That said, Ghost of Tsushima heavily relies on blocking, dodging, and waiting for an opportune moment to strike. It’s similar in style to a Soulslike game, especially more modern titles, such as Elden Ring or Sekiro, but unique enough to stand alone.

If you’re worried about the combat feeling too challenging, don’t! It’s still a story-focused action game, first and foremost, so you should find the gameplay more approachable.

How is the Combat in Ghost of Tsushima?

I’ve heard some players liken it to the Batman Arkham series, especially when surrounded by multiple enemies and fighting on various fronts. It’s not a straight-up button-smashing contest to see who can strike first and fastest; you will have to learn how to time attacks and when to block incoming strikes from opponents.

Overall, as someone who has yet to play the game firsthand (I’m waiting on the PC release!), I think all new players will find the combat more approachable and welcoming than expected!
