Playground Games’ upcoming Fable is rapidly approaching launch day, and like many of you, we have questions that deserve answers. Personally, I have Fable situated firmly in my most-anticipated games for the coming year. I can’t get enough of the recent Fable gameplay or the tidbits about handcrafted NPCs. But still, there are questions to be answered, like when does Fable release, is Fable on Game Pass, and how much does Fable cost?
When Does Fable Release?
Fable officially launches on February 23, 2027. Playground Games initially aimed for an Autumn 2026 release, but with so many big-name titles coming out — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and Grand Theft Auto VI — it makes sense why they’d want to avoid the fall game release window.
If you purchase the Fable Premium Edition, you can play the open-world RPG five days early, starting February 18.
What Platforms Is Fable Launching On?

On release day, you can grab a copy of Fable for the following systems:
- PC
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X/S
Unfortunately for those fans a console generation behind, Fable isn’t coming to Xbox One. It will support Xbox Cloud Gaming, however.
Is Fable Coming to Game Pass?

Yes. Fable will launch on Xbox Game Pass day one, so if you’re a subscriber to Game Pass, you can play the base game through the subscription.
If you’d prefer to play the Premium Edition, Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can pay for the $39.99 Premium Upgrade to gain access to the Premium Edition’s early access and bonus content with a Game Pass subscription.
How Much Does Fable Cost?

Fable pricing follows recent new game release trends, in that it’s $69.99 for the Fable Standard Edition or $99.99 for the Fable Premium Edition.
Both feature pre-order bonuses if you purchase a copy ahead of release, and Premium offers five days of early access, the Premium Edition Content Pack, a digital artbook, soundtrack, and post-launch expansion.
Can You Play Fable on PC?
Yes. Fable is coming to PC via Xbox and Steam on day one. The Xbox version supports Windows 10/11 and Xbox Play Anywhere, while the Steam version is currently available to pre-order for the February 2027 release date.
Is Fable Coming to PS5?

Yes. Fable is launching on PlayStation 5 on February 23, alongside the PC and Xbox versions of the game, for $69.99 or $99.99, depending on which version of the game you want.
This is the first time the long-running RPG franchise has set foot on PlayStation platforms. The PS5 version includes the same adventure, and the Premium Edition includes the same content as found on the PC and Xbox versions.
Can You Preload Fable?
The ability to preload Fable has not yet been officially revealed. Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation all have store pages live for the game, but none have provided a preload start time or download-size estimate/announcement.

Does Fable Have Early Access?

Yes. If you purchase Fable Premium Edition for $99.99, it includes up to five days of early access, starting February 18, 2027.
Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers do not automatically gain access to Fable Premium Edition, however. To enjoy the early access and bonus content, subscribers must purchase the $39.99 Premium Upgrade.
Is Fable Multiplayer?
No, unfortunately. Fable is a single-player RPG, so you shouldn’t expect any sort of multiplayer or cooperative gameplay across Albion.
Many of the game’s mechanics, like the Living Population system, make it appear bigger in scale and like a live-service RPG at times. It’s not. This is a single-player experience, through and through.
What Kind of Game Is Fable?

Fable is an open-world, single-player RPG developed by Playground Games and published by Xbox Game Studios. It’s a revamp of the original series, rather than a direct continuation.
Once more, players will venture across Albion, with a strong focus on exploration, combat, customization, moral choices, and a reactive population. You can fight using melee weapons, ranged weapons, and magic as you tackle the main story and side quests across various biomes.
If you’re tired of adventuring, the various towns and cities allow you to work, purchase property, romance characters, marry, build your reputation, and live a life in Albion.
