What is Road to Vostok?
Road to Vostok is a hardcore, single-player survival FPS set in a post-apocalyptic zone nestled between Finland and Russia. Designed and built by a single developer, the FPS puts you in a hostile no man’s land, where you must scavenge, trade, and fight through increasingly dangerous zones, culminating in a permadeath area known as Vostok.
Checking out the trailer and screenshots below, you might notice some similarities between Escape From Tarkov and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. FAQs
Unfortunately, no. Road to Vostok is a single-player-only game by design. The developer made this a deliberate, creative, and practical decision, as multiplayer is significantly more expensive, time-consuming, and risky to build and maintain for a single-person studio.
It all depends on where you die. If you die in Area 05 or the Border Zone, you lose your gear and loot, but your shelter, stored items, and progress remain. If you’re in Vostok, the endgame permadeath zone, you can lose everything.
Vostok does not feature in-game currency. As such, every item is assigned value based on its usefulness, so loot medical supplies, food, etc. You may then trade with in-game NPC traders, each specializing in different categories. As you work with traders, completing quests and trading, you’ll raise their relationship level, unlocking rarer items and lore.
The studio plans for approximately 2 to 4 years in Early Access, though that may change as development continues. Once Vostok is feature-complete and deemed fully playable, it will be released into 1,0. Updates and new content are planned quarterly, but again, that may change during development.
At this time, console versions on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are being considered but not actively planned. They’ll only come after the PC version reaches 1.0, unfortunately.
If you’re a fan of hardcore survival games, then absolutely, Road to Vostok is worth every penny in Early Access. With a launch discount and a retail price of $19.99 after, it costs less than a fast food meal these days, and you’ll easily get tens, if not hundreds, of hours of gameplay!
