How Long is Night in State of Decay 2?
A complete day-night cycle in State of Decay 2 is 90 minutes, with nighttime eating up 60 minutes and daytime a measly 30 minutes. It always feels like nighttime because it usually is, unfortunately.
But there’s a kicker! It’s not technically “night.” The day is broken up into dawn, day, dusk, and night. While dawn and dusk provide some light, it’s still quite dark. You’ll want to use a flashlight to see anything, including the zombies lurking just around the corner!

What To Do During the Night in State of Decay 2
As a zombie survival game, you’ll want to optimize your time in State of Decay 2. I don’t like venturing out in the dark, and it’s not because the game is scary—it’s not!—but the low visibility often makes looting and fighting bothersome. But you don’t want to waste the time either, so here are a few tips I’ve gathered over the years:
- Now is the time to sort through your inventory, break down any items you don’t want, and craft anything you need, like ammunition, throwables, and first aid.
- Open the map and start planning your next loot run. While State of Decay 2 isn’t brutal on the lower difficulty levels, it becomes challenging on Nightmare and above. You’ll want a thorough plan to ensure your survivors make it home each night!
- If you feel brave, equip an 8-slot backpack and explore the immediate neighborhood. Now’s a good time to loot the nearby houses and sheds to clear out any leftovers.
How to Skip Night in State of Decay 2
While you can’t outright skip nighttime in State of Decay 2, you can use the above tips to use the time wisely. Otherwise, I recommend setting up a second screen to watch YouTube.
