While many prefer to play a game like State of Decay 2 solo, countless people would rather experience the zombie apocalypse with a friend. If you fall into the latter camp, you’ll likely want to know whether you can play State of Decay 2 cross-platform. Here’s your answer!
Can You Play State of Decay 2 Cross-Platform?
You can play State of Decay 2 cross-platform between PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. You will have to connect your Xbox profile, which the game prompts you to complete upon launching it for the first time. Once connected, you can add your friends to a game, no matter what system they play the survival game on.
With so many previously console-exclusive Xbox titles launching on Sony’s systems, we’re hoping that State of Decay 2 will launch on PlayStation 5 soon and with cross-platform play. Unfortunately, nothing is yet confirmed, and from past experience, it appears Xbox announces such intentions a few months in advance. There’s a chance we must wait for State of Decay 3 for a PS5 launch, sadly.

How to Play Multiplayer in State of Decay 2
If you want to play multiplayer in State of Decay 2 with players across various systems, there are a few steps to complete first:
- First and foremost, you must finish the game’s tutorial section. It’s pretty short and introduces you to the game world and core gameplay mechanics, such as looting, stealth, and inventory management. Once you finish, you’ll spawn at Providence Ridge; from there, you can invite your friends to play.
- Once you complete the tutorial, you can add your friends via the Xbox App on your PC or directly from your console’s menu, which you may access by selecting the Xbox button in the center of your controller.

- Then, navigate to the game’s multiplayer settings. You can find these by opening the pause menu and selecting Multiplayer from Settings. There’s a toggle for “Host Multiplayer Game” that you’ll want to turn on.
- Lastly, invite your friends to play!
Just a reminder that only the host retains any progress made during a play session. However, other players occasionally receive rewards and can return some loot to their communities.
No matter where you play State of Decay 2, learning more about the game’s vehicle upgrades can help you navigate the zombie apocalypse more easily. The Guide Hall prefers wandering Trumbull Valley on foot when possible, but we certainly understand the need for a fast-moving vehicle with cargo space!
