Starfield: How to Store Items on Ships

You’ll accumulate a whole mess of junk during your adventures in Starfield. From copper and beryllium to positron batteries and ship parts for repairs, it all weighs you down in the end. But not if you’re tactical. Here is how to store items on ships in Starfield!

How to Store Items on Your Starship in Starfield

To store items on your ship in Starfield, enter your starship, but don’t automatically go to the cockpit. Once inside, walk down the ship’s length until you’re within the cockpit, then turn to the wall on either side to locate the cargo hold panel. It looks like the screenshot above.

Once you have it in sight, hit “R” on a keyboard or “X” on a controller to transfer items from your inventory. Alternatively, you can scroll through the available items and hit “E” on the keyboard or “A” on the controller to automatically take from the cargo hold and store them in your personal inventory.

How to Upgrade Your Ship’s Cargo Hold

When you finally upgrade your ship’s cargo hold, you have a handful of options available. For starters, land at a major port, like New Atlantis or Neon, and then speak to the Ship Services Technician. Here, you can upgrade your starship in various ways, including the cargo hold on some vessels. Some of the game’s Technicians will sell cargo hold modules, others won’t. You may need to visit a Staryard, like the Stroud-Eklund Staryard, to purchase a module beforehand.

However, we must note that you can’t upgrade every cargo hold in the game.

In such cases, purchasing an entirely new ship is often best. If that’s your goal, opt for something larger, something in the next tier of ship class, with a lot of customization available.

The Guide Hall intends to ignore reality and live life entirely in Starfield for the foreseeable future. We’ll occasionally drop through Unity to publish a guide on the game for everyone still enjoying the adventure!
