I’m a long-time fan of State of Decay. The first game provided me with my big break in game journalism, and to this day, it remains one of my favorite franchises. But it’s been three years since the announcement trailer for the third game! What is the State of Decay 3 release date?!
What We Know About the State of Decay 3 Release Date
Unfortunately, there is no concrete release date for State of Decay 3 yet. It’s coming, though. I can feel it in my bones. We finally saw a brand-new trailer at Xbox Games Showcase on June 9, and while it’s absolutely chilling and exciting, it doesn’t even reveal a release window.

What is State of Decay 3 Gameplay Like?
Currently, we know very little about the gameplay of State of Decay 3. Everyone within the community, especially those still enjoying State of Decay 2, has an extensive gameplay wishlist—and it’s a list that continuously grows!
For now, based on the reveal trailer from years back, we know a few things:
- We saw some sort of weather system, with the trailer showing off winter gameplay with snowfall.
- The character in the trailer fought an undead deer, indicating we may see additional zombie animals.
- While clearly a cinematic trailer, we saw additional survival elements, including camping and tracking.
Now, granted, this announcement trailer came out over three years ago, and a lot can change within that timeframe. We may not see snow, undead animals, or survival elements beyond what’s featured in State of Decay 2. Here’s hoping it’s a bigger and better experience overall, though!
The Guide Hall cannot wait much longer for State of Decay 3 to drop! We need even a smidgen of info about the game this summer!
