On October 29, 2024, Nintendo shadowdropped a trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch. Ever since the release of the Switch in 2017, the majority of the Wii U’s incredible library has been portered over. Only a handful of games still stuck on the consle. After years of fans, myself included, begging for a port, Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition will release on March 20, 2025.
Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition is a spinoff game based on the beloved Xenoblade series. However, it’s a standalone story that dosen’t require knowledge of any other game to enjoy. In fact it takes place in a different universe.
The game is set in 2054, where the earth has been destroyed by a war between two alien races. A handfull of ships were able to escape the earth and take refuge in space, carrying the last of humanity. One ship, the USS White Whale, crash lands on a planet called Mira. Once there, you’ll join and become a member of BLADE to help the rest of humanity survive the mysterious planet.

As a BLADE member, you’ll explore Mira’s vast landscapes, from jungles to deserts, each filled with diverse wildlife and alien species. Your mission is to secure resources, set up safe zones, and find other survivors scattered across the planet. Equipped with advanced tech, including Skells—mechanized suits—you’ll face fierce creatures and forge alliances with alien factions. Along the way, you’ll uncover Mira’s secrets, which may be vital to humanity’s survival.
Fans will be able to purchase Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition physically and digitally on March 20, 2025 for $59.99 USD.
