One of the most highly requested game modes in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, surprisingly, wasn’t the competitive PvP mode. While Eternal War sounds entertaining for a few rounds, I’m more excited about the cooperative options. More specifically, I, and many like me, want a horde mode in Space Marine 2. Is it coming?
Does Space Marine 2 Have a Horde Multiplayer Mode?
Unfortunately, we don’t know anything about a horde mode in Space Marine 2. There’s no word about such a game mode, though it seems likely, right? The game features an extensive enemy horde system akin to World War Z on steroids, so passing up a horde mode or wave-defense multiplayer mode seems like a tragic mistake.
That said, considering Saber Interactive is also behind World War Z, which inevitably launched its Horde XL Mode post-release, we have a sneaking suspicion that Space Marine 2 will see something similar. If it does, that’s where you’ll find me most nights!

What Multiplayer Modes Does Space Marine 2 Offer?
Currently, we know the game will offer numerous multiplayer modes, with the primary focus being on cooperative gameplay. However, there’s also a PvP mode for those who prefer small-scale competitive encounters. Here’s what we can expect from Space Marine 2’s multiplayer component:
- Co-op Campaign
- Operations Mode
- Eternal War (PvP)
While it’s unlikely the team will announce any additional game modes before the September 9 release date, we can certainly keep our fingers crossed for post-launch content—updates, expansions, etc.
