Where to Get Retro Games

I recently found myself excitedly exploring the world of retro games. It feels odd calling the titles I played growing up “retro” these days. Back then, they were just my video games. It’s my go-to entertainment. But we’re numerous console generations ahead of my childhood, and tracking down my favorite PlayStation 2 games proves challenging. Thankfully, I found a few resources I’d like to share with newcomers to retro gaming. Here is where to get retro games for your collection!

How to Get Retro Games for Your Collection

I recently started looking online for shops selling old-school gaming consoles and titles as I wanted to reminisce about my childhood. I fondly remember playing N64, PS2, and Xbox 360. Those were some of the best eras in gaming, with so many memorable titles.

I found a shop nearby and immediately bought Socom, Socom 2, Killzone, and Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction for the PlayStation 2. But I found so much more!

Of course, these online retailers vary in quality. There are countless videos online, like those from Retro Rebound, detailing the poor quality of retro game finds online. As such, like with any hobby, buyer-beware!

Recommended Retro Games for First-Time Collectors

It’s tough to recommend old-school games for collectors without first knowing key factors, such as your favorite/available systems, the genres you enjoy, and your budget. But let me take a crack at recommending a variety of retro games:

  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2)
  • Silent Hill 2 (PS2)
  • Beyond Good & Evil (PS2)
  • Perfect Dark (N64)
  • Super Mario 64 (N64)
  • F-Zero X (N64)
  • Jet Set Radio Future (Xbox)
  • Steel Battalion (Xbox)
  • Full Spectrum Warrior (Xbox)

Be wary, however. Since starting my retro gaming collection, I can’t help but look at everything. I want to visit the retro store each weekend to explore what’s on offer, what consoles they fixed up in the back, and what box art catches my attention from the wall. It’s easy to become overwhelmed with the possibilities!
