It’s safe to assume that we need more with the recent fervor surrounding the Fallout TV series from Amazon and the massive influx of new and returning players to the game series. Waiting for the next release is insufficient; fans want something new next week. So, when is Fallout 5 coming out?
Do We Have a Fallout 5 Release Date?
Currently, we do not have a Fallout 5 release date. We have a release window of sorts, placing the game sometime between 2028 and 2033, which is such a massive window and an absolute bummer. I’ll be in my forties when the game hits store shelves, which is depressing enough. However, going another decade without a mainline release is just too much.
Fallout 76 didn’t exactly impress anyone when it launched in 2018. These days, it’s much improved, though. I mean, seriously, the game hit over one million players in a single day, according to Bethesda. The desire for something new is alive and well, and now it’s up to Xbox and Bethesda to provide players with a new single-player entry!

Where is Fallout 5 Set?
As we don’t even have a release date for Fallout 5, the exact setting of the game is up in the air currently. The best we can do is guess, and here are the top locations that I think would suit the post-apocalyptic open-world setting best:
- New Orleans, LA
- Seattle, WA
- Chicago, IL
- Austin, TX
- Portland, ME
Yeah, Portland, Maine, is definitely out of left field; I get that. However, think of the immense success of Far Harbor in Fallout 4. It was easily the game’s best setting, with so much atmosphere and lore. Maine could provide the perfect setting for a mainline Fallout entry, and I’m down for exploring more of the Cthulu-esque mysteries of Ug-Qualtoth!
What We Know About Fallout 5 to Date
Right now, very little is known about Fallout 5. We don’t have story, story, character, or game mechanics details whatsoever. It’s unfortunate, considering how much everyone is pining for even a sliver of new information from Bethesda. They’re too quiet!
Some people speculate that Fallout 5 is multiplayer, like Fallout 76. Others, myself included, believe it’s a single-player game like the rest of the franchise. Whatever the case, we’ll update this page with additional information when it becomes available!
