As a long-time fan of The Division and The Division 2—I even own physical merch—I was excited to hear about another upcoming title in the series. What I wasn’t ecstatic about, however, was that it’s a free-to-play PvEvP extraction shooter. It seems like Ubisoft is always chasing trends a little too late. So, what is The Division Heartland?
What is The Division Heartland Exactly?
The Division: Heartland is a free-to-play PvEvP survival shooter focused on looting essential items and extracting before the virus encroaches upon the territory and everyone succumbs to the illness. There will be two primary game modes:
- Storm Operations
- This is a 45-player PvEvP mode in which players band together or fly solo while facing a rogue faction, the Vultures, and other players in a bid for supremacy.
- Excursion Operations
- This is a PvE mode where you’ll focus on tackling objectives and collecting loot and equipment, similar to Call of Duty’s DMZ, but without the frantic and chaotic nature of PvP.
There are three classes to accompany both game modes, including Weapons Expert, Medic, and Survivalist, and six unique characters. I prefer custom characters, as the hero-based shooter fad is definitely out the window, but that’s Ubisoft for you!
When is The Division Heartland Release Date?
As of right now, The Division Heartland release date is unknown.
It was officially announced in May 2021, and since then, we’ve had a handful of beta periods to test out the game’s mechanics and gameplay. However, we’ve yet to hear anything about an official release, though I suspect it will be sometime this year, in 2024, likely Summer.

Is The Division Heartland Cross Platform?
The Division Heartland does support cross-platform and crossplay with full progression, no matter which system you play on.
The survival shooter will launch on multiple systems:
- PC
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- Xbox One
How to Get Into The Division Heartland Beta
Ubisoft previously held numerous The Division Heartland beta periods, with initial access going out to press and content creators. This was followed by a broad testing phase in which anyone who signed up via Ubisoft Connect could join the beta for a limited time period over a single weekend.
If there is another beta for the game, it will likely remain open for everyone to sign up using Ubisoft Connect. Keep an eye on the launcher for additional information!
