What is Ratten Reich? – Answered

The real-time strategy genre has evolved significantly over the years, rotating between conflicts, adding and removing base-building components, and entering and leaving the competitive scene worldwide. But it trucks on, with a hearty fanbase to boot. Well, there’s a new kid on the block. But what is Ratten Reich?

All About Ratten Reich

Ratten Reich is a brand-new real-time strategy game focusing on visceral combat in a unique setting. Instead of the usual human soldiers, you’ll fight a war between rats, mice, lizards, and cockroaches. It’s a unique and oddball take that, honestly, I’m very excited to jump into on launch day.

The game spans three theaters of war: the Central Continent, the Eastern Continent, and an as-of-yet-unnamed desert continent. Each environment provides unique challenges, with trenches and swamps, military fortifications, and sandstorms to sweep across the battlefield and completely alter how you navigate the environment.

If I may be so bold, it reminds me of Company of Heroes from a gameplay standpoint. Albeit, Company of Heroes with rodents and lizards instead of Germans and Russians.

When Can You Play Ratten Reich?

If you’re interested in playing Ratten Reich, the game officially launches on August 9 into Steam Early Access. Developer METALLADLERSTUDIO (sorry for shouting at you!) even revealed a lengthy roadmap for the RTS spanning deep into 2025.

They intend to introduce additional unit classes, an AI skirmish mode, vehicle customization, an expansive single-player campaign, flamethrowers, new gameplay mechanics, and DLC to further expand and enhance the RTS gameplay.

Many of us at The Guide Hall grew up playing strategy games on our family computers. Now, we’re eyeing Ratten Reich as an all-new experience. We’d love to bring you guides from the steampunk world!
