There’s been a lot of announcements for The Sims community lately. The Sims franchise is turning 25, The Sims 4 is turning 10, the Sims 5 has been canceled, and there’s a Sims movie coming out.
These bombshells got dropped in a blog post on the EA website. Let’s take a look and break all of this down one by one.
Sims Franchise Birthday
The original Sims game launched on February 4, 2000 and its 25 birthday is rapidly approaching, which is cause for celebration. Of that 25 years, a decade of it is from The Sims 4. The Sims usually has some celebration going on in game, but talk of The Sims 4’s tenth birthday has been swept under the rug.
With that being said, it seems like there’s a lot to prepare for. One major thing that stood out was that EA is going to be working more actively with Sims content creators when making kits. These new types of kits are called Sims 4 Creator Kits.
Sims 4 Creator Kits are made completely by content creators and published by The Sims team. Sims fans will start to see these appear in November 2024 along with the normal EA kits that we’re already used to.
There’s not much information about the Sims 4 Creator Kits yet, but it seems like it will make custom content available for everyone, but it will also be paid instead of free.
The next notable thing in celebration of The Sims’ birthday is the MySims: Cozy Bundle. This bundle will be remastered copies of MySims and MySims Kingdom coming to the Switch. They are available for preorder right now and will be available to play on November 19.
Sims 5 Cancellation
In this blog post, The Sims Team also announced that The Sims 5 is not happening. Instead, they want to focus on improving, adding, and expanding The Sims 4.
This left the community confused because later on in the blog post they went on to say that Project Rene was still happening, which was assumed to be The Sims 5 until recently. So, it seems like The Sims 5 wasn’t canceled, it was never happening in the first place.
Then, what is Project Rene? A lot of fans are theorizing that it is going to be a new Sims Online game. This makes sense since Project Rene’s biggest factor is that it is going to be multiplayer.
The Sims Movie
The final thing from this blog post was the announcement of a Sims movie. This was a shock to the community and there’s not much information on it yet.
The movie will be produced by LuckyChap, which is the same company that produced the Barbie movie.
A Sims movie is an interesting choice since the game relies heavily on how each individual person plays it. While there is some lore that they can use and townies that are in every game, I’m not sure how a movie will go.
