As part of Project Lupara in The Outlast Trials, players now have access to a brand new ability: The Barricade. It’s a unique Rig in that it allows Reagents to escape threats by locking a door with a formidable barricade. Enemies must either bash through or find an alternate route, offering you precious time to secure an objective or escape. Here is how to unlock and use The Barricade in The Outlast Trials!
How to Unlock The Barricade in The Outlast Trials
To unlock The Barricade—the new player ability available in Project Lupara—visit the Engineer on the first floor of the Sleep Room. He’s down one of the hallways; follow the red line and arrow on the floor marked “Engineer.”
Once there, speak with him, and he’ll offer you access to The Barricade. It’s a brand-new Rig and, as such, requires you to unlock the ability using a single ticket. Once it’s unlocked, open the Terminal and select “Loadout.” From here, you may activate one Rig. In this case, The Barricade.
Like all other Rigs in the game, if you want to upgrade Barricade, you must spend tickets at the Engineer.
All Barricade Rig Upgrades
As with the other Rigs in The Outlast Trials, Barricade features eight levels, seven of which are upgrades to the core ability.
- Activate
- Unlocks the ability to install a barricade on a door or doorway to block the path temporarily.
- Decreased Cooldown
- Reduces the cooldown before you may use Barricade again.
- Increased Resistance
- Increases the overall durability of Barricades.
- Quick Installation
- Improves the usage speed of Barricades.
- Incoming Warning
- When an enemy breaks a Barricade, it pings the location on your HUD.
- Friendly Breach
- If you or a teammate breaks a Barricade, the cooldown period will significantly reduce.
- Extra Barricade
- Allows you to place two Barricades.
- Prepared
- The Rig is prepped for use at the start of a Trial.

How to Use The Barricade
Like any other Rig in The Outlast Trials, to activate Barricade, select the ability from your hotbar by scrolling through your available items until you reach the last box. This box is your Rig ability. Like your other items, you’ll activate it using the interaction prompt, a mouse click, or hitting “X” on your controller.
Unlike other Rig abilities, to use Barricade, you must first stand before a shut door or open doorway. Once you’re in place, hit your ability prompt to place the Barricade, barring entry to that path for a limited time.
Enemies may still break through the Barricade, so use the ability sparingly and wisely. It’s best to block off objectives that require time to complete, such as when searching for keys or unlocking gates.
