After you spend a little time creating your character and frantically racing through the prologue, The Outlast Trials opens up in a unique lobby setting. You’re a patient in an asylum with a common area, dorm rooms, and pharmacy. You’ll spend much of your time out on trials, but back home, you can customize your character in The Outlast Trials. Here’s how!
How to Customize Your Character in The Outlast Trials
To customize your character in The Outlast Trials, head to your dorm room (the one with your name over the door) and interact with the mirror on the left-hand wall above the sink. Here, you can access the ‘Appearance‘ menu, where you may select various outfits, including entire getups like the one shown below, or mix-and-match with t-shirts, pants, and equipment.
That said, you can always change your entire appearance from the menu. If you’re unsatisfied with your voice or facial appearance, select one of the preset options and start fresh.
How to Unlock Outfits in The Outlast Trials
Some of the most interesting outfits in the game require resources to unlock and wear. To unlock outfits in The Outlast Trials, you must complete trials. When you finish a trial and successfully return to the dormitory, you’ll earn credits to help you buy different cosmetics items. The better your score in the trial, the more you earn. It’s a rather satisfying gameplay loop.
But you must complete Program X and become Reborn for the best outfits in the game. Each time you become Reborn, you receive Release Tokens, which you may turn around and use on the outfits. Now, some of these outfits require 20 Release Tokens. You earn one per Program X completion, so it’s a bit of a grind.
