The Outlast Trials: Everything New in the Toxic Shock Update

I don’t know about you, but I can’t get enough of The Outlast Trials. I didn’t think I would enjoy the game as much as I did, but after scoring it perfectly and playing it regularly, I just can’t get enough of the world design, enemies, and lore. It’s very thrilling! Thankfully, there’s more to come. Here is everything new in The Outlast Trials Toxic Shock update!

What’s New in the Toxic Shock Update?

This is a big one! As the first major update to The Outlast Trials since hitting 1.0, this sizable patch offers plenty of new gameplay elements, tweaks, and balancing changes.

First and foremost, we have the Toxic Shock limited-time event. As you explore the Trials, you’ll note a thick fog lingering in the air. This event occasionally fills the area with toxic gas, dealing permanent damage. You must hide from the noxious fumes to survive while attempting to locate the drugged rats for experimentation. Check it out:

Furthermore, the new update includes changes to how programs work. For instance, to unlock Program X, you must now finish all Trials of Program Genesis. To unlock Program Ultra, you must now finish all Trials of Program X. The final Trial of Program Genesis will now grant the Core Therapy Poster, which was previously only available to those who become reborn for the first time.

Lastly, there are numerous fixes, additions, and balancing tweaks. Far too many to list here, though I do recommend visiting the announcement for additional information on the update. Here are the most important changes:

  • Increased rewards for scoring A+ in challenging Trials.
  • Reduced penalty for triggering sound traps.
  • Reworked main menu interface.
  • Decreased the amount of evidence necessary in Courthouse.
  • Antotoxin delay reduces to 60 seconds from 120 seconds.
  • Fixed hit reaction delays.
  • Fixed an issue causing disconnections from hiding spots.
  • Using a ping now triggers a pointing emote.

Get in and enjoy The Outlast Trials now, as Toxic Shock only lasts until May 7th at 10 AM ET!

Upcoming Events in The Outlast Trials

Alongside the new update for The Outlast Trials, developer Red Barrels revealed a handful of upcoming events. These include:

  • Toxic Shock (April 16 to May 7)
  • Recent Therapies (May 7 to May 14)
  • No Meds (May 14 to May 21)

The last two events on the list are part of the Weekly Program, a rotating series of mutators that change up the gameplay in numerous Trials!

But that’s not all because we’re also receiving additional MK-Challenges in the form of:

  • Tilt The Scales of Justice: “Can real evidence of false crimes outweigh the power of corrupting wealth? Load the scales of Lady Justice and observe.”
  • Sabotage the Factory: “Murkoff controls the means of production; use the emergency breaks to shut down the factory.”

The Guide Hall continues to thoroughly enjoy The Outlast Trials, and we hope to cover it for quite some time. We’ll have more for you soon!
