As a parent, I’m cautious about what my child views. As it is my job to play occasionally terrifying and graphic video games, I take precautions to shut the office door tightly and avoid them viewing anything. What Age is The Outlast Trials For?
The Outlast Trials, a cooperative survival horror game, is meant for 18+ players. With an M age rating, and for a good reason, the horror game features a lot of horrific scenery, exceptional yet scarring sound design, and enough grotesque imagery to stick with a child or preteen well into their adult life.
Unfortunately, I’ve encountered many children playing the game and using their microphones to interact with public players. I won’t be a hypocrite and say I never played an M-rating game as a child or preteen, but as a parent, I’m pretty careful about what my child witnesses on a screen, and The Outlast Trials is one that they’re never around. It’s too graphic.
Why is The Outlast Trials Rated M?
The Outlast Trials received an M Rating for several reasons:
- Sex and Nudity
- Violence and Gore
- Profanity
- Alcohol, Drugs and Smoking
- Frightening and Intense Scenes

Is The Outlast Trials Violent?
Yes, The Outlast Trials includes a ton of violence. You can’t outright attack anyone yourself, although you can toss glass bottles and bricks to stun and distract enemies. However, the various Ex-Pop, such as the Big Grunts and Pouncer, have no qualms about resorting to graphic violence to stop players from achieving their goals.
Can Kids Watch The Outlast Trials?
No! The Outlast Trials, while fun for those old enough to enjoy the game, is not meant for children under 18. It’s far too graphic, occasionally terrifying, and there’s a lot of blood, gore, and violence on-screen at almost all times.
It’s best to play it safe with this one and keep the children out of the room or wait until they’re asleep for the night before playing!
