The First Descendant is developer Nexon’s new free-to-play looter shooter. The game plays a lot like Destiny or The Division, and fans of this genre will feel right at home. As with any looter shooter, upgrading your character and gear is essential to the gameplay loop. The First Descendant has many upgrade options, and some are clearer than others. Here, we will explain how to increase your Mastery Rank in The First Descendant.
Mastery Rank Notification
After a short time of playing, you will get a notification that the next Mastery Rank is available. This notification will continuously ping, however entering the menus will not allow you to upgrade your mastery.
Most upgrades and customizations can be done from the menu screens, but some, like Mastery Ranks, require heading back to Albion, the First Descendant’s main hub world.

Prime Hands In Albion
Once you head back to Albion, you must head towards the Prime Hands to increase your Mastery Rank in The First Descendant. Upon entering Albion, the Prime Hands will be to the character’s left and indicated by a yellow hand symbol on the map.
Upgrading Via Prime Hands In Albion
Once you reach the prime hands, you can select the next Mastery Rank and long press to upgrade. You can view all the Mastery Ranks via your characters menu screen, but you cannot upgrade unless you are at the Prime Hands in Albion.
Mastery Ranks are based on weapon proficiency, so the more proficient you are with your headshots and accuracy, the more often you will need to head back to the Prime Hands in Albion.
