What is Starminer?
Starminer, by developer CoolAndGoodGames, is an interstellar mining space simulation game in which you run a budding mining company looking to strip space of its invaluable resources. Use your profits to expand your company, reinvest in new technology, build additional mining stations, or control the system with powerful warships, gunning down any competitors or hostiles that approach your operations.
Starminer is a PC-exclusive space sandbox coming this May 2026!

Key Features & Gameplay Overview
- Ship Design: You have the power to design and build an entire fleet of mining and combat ships to protect your investment, balancing requirements such as power, tonnage, and size with efficiency. Select module by module as you build the ultimate empire!
- Space Economy: As you harvest rare minerals from the star system’s asteroids, you’ll use your resources and profits to expand your fleet, allowing you to mine additional resources or tackle missions for the highest bidder.
- Research: Unlock additional modules and equipment by researching useful technology, thereby expanding your fleet and mining operations.
- Hostile Aliens: As you mine the system for its invaluable resources, your heat signature increases, and an alien race may detect you. It’s up to you to defend your mining operation with defense systems and combat ships.
Starminer Mechanics
Fully Simulated Space
Space is expansive and dangerous in Starminer. You’ll experience a 150,000t warship navigating precariously between asteroids in the vacuum of space in real-time. The game features fully simulated physics, so watch your sectors!
Expand Your Empire
Reinvest your profits from mining or by taking on high-risk, high-reward bounties from different organizations in the sector to expand your empire. Unlock additional modules and technology via research, build new ships with additional power and size, and scale your empire with new mining stations and link gates.
Defend Your Empire
As you expand your fleet and mining operations, harvesting invaluable resources from the environment, you’ll attract unwanted attention in the form of competitors and aliens. To defend yourself, you must design and construct warships with various combat-oriented modules, or invest in defense platforms to protect wide swathes of space.

- A: The game will launch as an Early Access title initially, spending approximately one year in the program before full release.
- Q: Is Starminer multiplayer?
- A: At launch, the game will not feature a multiplayer or cooperative game mode. However, the studio intends to add additional game modes, including co-op and a competitive multiplayer mode, sometime during development.
- Q: Does Starminer have combat?
- A: Yes, there is combat in the game. As you expand your mining operations, you may attract unwanted attention, specifically from aliens who will attack your fleet.
- Q: Can you play Starminer on Steam Deck?
- A: There is official gameplay from the developer of the game running on Steam Deck, though it does require optimization.
