It’s been relatively quiet since the launch of Shattered Space, which wasn’t received overly well by the community. But in the background, it appears Bethesda is quietly toiling away on its space adventure, Starfield. The team just announced Free Lanes, a major free content update, and Terran Armada, an upcoming DLC. But this isn’t the end. Bethesda was quick to reiterate its commitment to Starfield, saying Free Lanes isn’t the end of Starfield support!
Bethesda is, of course, still working on numerous projects behind the scenes. There’s support for Starfield, ongoing work on The Elder Scrolls 6, and rumors of Fallout 5, coming sometime after I turn 40. But regarding Starfield, Tim Lamb followed the announcement of Free Lanes and Terran Armada by reassuring the press, saying:
Look, when we make a game, our plan is always to support it for a number of years after launch. There’s places the team still wants to explore.
We plan to support Starfield for years, and we do have long-term plans, but I don’t have anything to announce right now.
Fans within the community appear jaded, however, with some saying they suspect Bethesda will commit to the game by introducing new merch and ignoring the game altogether. Unlikely…I hope.
