What’s up with the Blue Grass in Stardew Valley? Following the most recent update to the game, with the addition of a new farm type, you’ll note an abundance of colorful Grass breaking up the monotony of green weeds. But what’s this magical new Grass?
What is Blue Grass?
First and foremost, you should know that you definitely want Blue Grass in Stardew Valley, especially if you intend to host a handful of farm animals. This uniquely colorful Grass proves twice as effective at feeding your animals as regular Grass. For instance, if you feed your Cows Blue Grass, they’ll receive twice the average amount of hearts.
But like with regular Grass, you’ll want to plop down a Silo or two by speaking with Robin to hold the excess. Then, when you cut down Blue Grass with your Sickle, it’ll turn into Fodder.

How to Grow Blue Grass in Stardew Valley
Currently, there are only two surefire methods to grow Blue Grass. You can start with the new farm type, Meadowlands Farm, with Blue Grass growing throughout the landscape. Like regular Grass, it sprouts during Spring, Summer, and Fall as usual. It won’t grow during Winter, though. I recommend not slicing all of the Blue Grass on your farmland, as even a tiny patch will start to grow and spread.
Alternatively, you must visit Ginger Island and purchase the Blue Grass Recipe from Qi. Once the crafting recipe is unlocked, you can create and plant Blue Grass to your heart’s content.
