Following the recent Developer Deep Dive, we know more about the game’s iconic setting and world design thanks to Xbox and GSC Game World. So, is Stalker 2 open world?
How Big is Stalker 2’s Open World?
Again, thanks to the Deep Dive, which you can check out below, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl features a massive open world. There are 20 unique zones to explore, with very few loading screens or barriers preventing you from traversing the post-apocalyptic landscape.
According to the studio, many of these zones are so large that they could be settings in their own game. Still, they ultimately decided to give us the entire map to create a sense of exploration, loneliness, and anxiety.
Furthermore, all of the game’s zones offer unique points of interest to explore. There are many returning structures and locations we previously visited in past titles. Even better, the team decided to unlock many different routes and previously blocked pathways, such as at the church in the Swamp. You can now access the locked door in the flooded basement by shooting the wooden barricade on the opposite side of the door through a crack in the wall. Inside, you’ll find rewards!

How Long Will It Take to Explore Stalker 2 Fully?
Really, it depends on you. I’m the type of player who values immersion and exploration. As such, I intend to spend hundreds of hours exploring the zone in Stalker 2. But if you want, you can forego the exploration and follow the game’s main story to completion.
You’ll likely wind up with approximately 50 hours for a single playthrough, including main and side content. The game offers four unique endings, so that’s nearly 200 hours of gameplay to see all four.
