It was just yesterday that GSC Game World stole the show at Xbox Partner Preview 2026, with the announcement trailer for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope—the first major expansion to its open-world post-apocalyptic FPS. One day later, and we know a bit more about the upcoming DLC. Most importantly, it appears that Cost of Hope is a nonlinear expansion, offering dozens of hours of gameplay, featuring “haunting stories, twisted characters, and that same heavy atmosphere of decay.”
Step into a fresh expedition across the Zone — a massive nonlinear expansion packed with dozens of hours of gameplay. Expect haunting stories, twisted characters, and that same heavy atmosphere of decay… with just a flicker of hope breaking through.
It’s time to step into a new chapter of a well-known conflict. Duty, one of the oldest factions, sees the Zone as a threat that must be contained and destroyed. On the other side, Freedom believes it’s a gift — something to explore and harness for the greater good. For a time, this tension was held together by a fragile peace. But deals like that rarely last.
According to developer GSC Game World, your choices during Cost of Hope shape the outcome of its story. You, once again, take on the role of Skif. A mysterious signal pings your PDA, triggering the new storyline, and then it’s off to two new regions: Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and Iron Forest. Both new areas feature hubs, quests, activities, anomalies, and apocalyptic sights to see.
Along with its story and environments, Cost of Hope includes new weapons and equipment, all of which we’re excited to get our hands on!
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S this summer!
