How to Defeat Greater Yammo in Rotwood
Your first real boss fight is Greater Yammo in Rotwood. He’s a minor boss, a stepping stone on the way to the big bad of the forest, Mother Treek. Still, this frog-like beast with a spike club provides enough of a challenge for first-time Hunters. Here are a few tips to defeat the beastie:
- Greater Yammo moves slowly until it’s time for a lunge attack or charge, and then he rushes forward with wreckless abandon to hit you. You can easily dodge out of the way and then hit him from behind.
- Occasionally, Yammo’s club becomes stuck in the ground. Use these few seconds of breathing room to heal or land a few strikes on his backside to deal a lot of damage quickly.
- At multiple points throughout the boss fight, Greater Yammo will summon minions from the grass in the center of the arena. These are minor mobs that don’t offer much challenge. Instead of wasting energy fighting them, let Greater Yammo deal damage to them. When he winds up for a charge, dodge-roll to the opposite side of the mob and let him run through his minions. He’ll smash and strike them in the process.
- Dealing with Greater Yammo is a matter of attrition. He’s not overly tricky unless you wind up getting overconfident. Take your time, dodge when necessary, and strike when you have an opening. But don’t put yourself at risk. He can defeat you in two or three strikes, as they each deal hundreds of damage per hit.
I’m not ashamed to say that I lost on my first attempt against Greater Yammo. My problem, as mentioned in the final point, was overconfidence. On the second try, however, I took a more systematic approach and carefully timed my attacks and dodge rolls to great success!
