Following an immensely successful demo, in which more than 600,000 players took on the roles of authentic human gas station and convenience store workers, Roadside Research is coming to Early Access in Q1 2026. Developer Cybernetic Walrus is keen to not only show off a brand new trailer, which you can check out below, but also share in the excitement with the community. We’re here for it!
In Roadside Research, players take on the role of an alien mimicking human lifeforms while running a gas station and an attached convenience store. You can customize your mask and skin color, and of course, deal with government agents who suspect something awry.
The best part? Roadside Research is a cooperative gaming experience for up to four players, all of whom will blend in and help run the service station successfully…or not.
What To Expect From Roadside Research
Per the developer, here’s a look at the key features in Roadside Research:
- Chaotic Co-op or Solo Play: Run the station on your own or team up with friends, and secretly gather human intel.
- Two Paths to Power: Choose wisely between two tech trees to advance your gas station income and research points to advance your alien technology.
- Oddly Satisfying Simulation: Pump gas, restock shelves, and expand your shop, all while blending in.
- Master Alien Deception: Perfect your disguise or risk exposure. Too much suspicion, and government agents will turn you into goo.
- Xbox Cross-Play: Play together across Xbox Series X|S and Xbox PC.*
Note: Cross-play is not supported between Xbox PC and the Steam version.
Roadside Research hits Early Access Q1 2026 on Steam, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox Game Pass.
