RimWorld Odyssey Launches July 11th With Gravships Inbound

RimWorld is one of those games that I return to frequently, binge-play for a month or two straight, and then put down for a bit. It’s one of my favorites, and it’s always installed on any computer I use. Whenever Tynan and the team at Ludeon Studios grace us with a new devlog or, even better, an announcement for a new expansion, like many of you, I dive in headfirst. I can’t help myself. Everyone in my household hears about it. That’s what happened with the announcement of RimWorld Odyssey, the latest and greatest expansion coming to the colony sim, and now we know more about its launch and features!

Oh, so very much! RimWorld Odyssey introduces:

  • Gravships: The ability to construct your gravship, travel across the entire planet, and settle a new colony, hunt for buried treasure, catch wild game, or eradicate an entire faction with relative ease. You’ll start construction small, with a grav engine, a bit of chemfuel for launch, and a few modules to house your colonists during transit. As you delve deeper into the expansion, you’ll uncover additional parts to build bigger and better gravships!
  • Biomes: Odyssey introduces five additional biomes to explore, and with your gravship, getting to each will be a breeze. These biomes include Glowforest, Scarlands, Grasslands, Glacial Plains, and Lava Fields. We’ll have more on all five soon!
  • Landmarks: You no longer require a mod to diversify the game’s maps, as landmarks make an appearance in this expansion. We’ll see cliffs and chasms, coastal fishing villages on peninsulas, abandoned colonies, and ancient structures, all ripe for plucking.
  • Space!: Along with traversing the planet itself, your gravship will allow you to fly into orbit. There, you’ll discover orbital platforms, asteroids, and satellites to explore and plunder.
  • Wildlife: More than 40 new animals are being introduced in Odyssey, including crows, herons, macaws, porcupines, bog hounds, colossus toads, walruses, sea turtles, mastodons, greatwolves, lava snails, stone crabs, hippos, and so many more!
  • Quests: You’ll receive the occasional quest from maps, visitors, and anonymous sources sent through the airwaves. These may include tracking down an alpha thrumbo, exploring a crypt, looting an orbital platform, or mining an asteroid field for its rare resources.
  • Weapons and Items: From a sawed-off shotgun to AI-assisted rifle scopes, new weapons and a unique weapon system promise to expand the combat capabilities of your colonists.
  • Machine Hive Mind: Prepare yourself for a new foe! A mechhive with an undying desire to destroy humankind pulses above the planet. Its mechanoids stream endlessly, attacking every human. You can destroy it, or take control of the hive mind for yourself.

You can bet I’m going to jump in day one to explore everything RimWorld Odyssey offers, so do yourself and us a favor and keep coming back to The Guide Hall to support independent websites that aren’t run by soulless corporations!
