While RimWorld is classified as a story-generator, that doesn’t mean folks don’t want some agency. In this case, the ability to customize and craft unique characters instead of solely relying on the procedural generation that the game heavily relies upon. But can you customize pawns in RimWorld? Initially, no. In the vanilla game, it’s all random. But perhaps there are other methods to utilize?
Can You Customize Pawns in Vanilla RimWorld?

In vanilla RimWorld, free of any mods, you can’t change much of anything about your characters. You can reroll if you wish by backing out and then setting up the colony again, and you can change their names to some extent. As for backstory, skills, traits, health complications, and relations, however, don’t expect much.
EdB Prepare Carefully

I know a lot of people within the RimWorld community have issues with EdB Prepare Carefully due to mod complications and optimization concerns, but I’ve always enjoyed using this one over competitors. It’s straightforward, intuitive, and offers countless customization options for each character. You can swap:
- Names
- Body Type
- Hair
- Hair Color
- Apparel
- Titles
- Abilities
- Age
- Backstory
- Traits
- Health
- Skills
Once you’re done customizing a character, you can also alter precisely which items you’ll drop planetside with, including any item from any mod you have installed. Godlike? Absolutely. Fun? Most definitely.

Character Editor

I’ve messed around with VOID’s Character Editor a little, and it does precisely what it says on the tin. You can customize characters down to unique hair colors and, as its screenshots imply, even craft anime characters. You can alter everything that EdB Prepare Carefully allows, along with factions, race, mental state, inspiration, inventory items, psy abilities, xenotypes, genes, and persona weapon traits.
RimWorld – Odyssey is available now, with all-new gravships to explore the planet and space, additional quests, more than 40+ animals, new weapons, and threats to your colony!
