S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is easily one of my favorite games in recent years, and despite playing something new every week, it’s the one I return to most frequently just to explore the Zone. But it’s also instilled in me an itch, an itch to explore other post-apocalyptic settings. Misery nails its PS1-inspired graphics with an immersive and claustrophobic environment, all while including cooperative elements. And now, we know the game’s release date!
What’s the Misery Release Date on Steam?
Misery officially launches on Steam on October 23. It doesn’t appear that it’ll launch in Early Access. I suspect a full release, but only time will tell, as we’re still a few months from launch.
If you can’t wait that long for this PlayStation 1-inspired S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-like first-person co-op shooter, then you can check out the Misery Playtest, available now exclusively on Steam. It launched on July 16th and includes the first 10 in-game days. But you’re not limited to a single run. You can start a new game after completing the 10 days.
As it’s a Playtest, the devs do request feedback and bug reports of any bugs, glitches, or balancing concerns during your playthrough.

What is Misery?
In Misery, you play as a PMC guarding a research institute in the Republic of Zaslavie. While on the job, sirens sound throughout the facility, alerting you of an impending nuclear bomb. You have 60 seconds to reach the bunker, and after that, a genuine test of survival begins.
From then on, you’ll venture out into the Exclusion Zone in search of supplies, scouring procedurally generated locations for anything useful while battling mutants, traps, radiation, and other survivors.
Like any good post-apocalyptic survival game, Misery features an assortment of anomalies dotting the landscape. These dangers hide valuable items, but could lead to your demise.
You know, we’re excited for this one. Sure, it’s directly inspired by titles such as S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but is that a bad thing? The Guide Hall intends to drop into the Playtest and the game on launch day without fail!
