Everyone, calm down. It’s happening! Planet Coaster 2 is finally upon us, and from early reviews, it appears the game is performing well and should, for the most part, satisfy long-time fans of the “Planet” series. But still, you want your money’s worth. You want value. So, let’s explore the three game modes in Planet Coaster 2—career mode, sandbox mode, and franchise mode!
Planet Coaster 2’s Three Game Modes
As mentioned, Planet Coaster 2 features three iconic game modes on launch day—career mode, sandbox mode, and franchise mode. Most of us will likely spend all our free time this week in sandbox mode, building the waterpark of our childhood dreams. But playing through Frontier’s campaign mode is always fun, especially if you want to unlock all of the game’s achievements/trophies!
Career Mode
In career mode, you’ll tackle various theme parks and water parks, all with unique challenges and layouts that increase in difficulty as you play. Beforehand, the game features a short prologue that will help teach you the basics, allowing you to meet a few characters and explore the new gameplay mechanics in Planet Coaster 2 firsthand!

Sandbox Mode
Here’s where I’ll likely spend the rest of the week, in sandbox mode, where freedom and endless possibilities reign supreme. In this game mode, you can unlock all the research, cheat your way through self-imposed challenges with infinite money, and test various park designs and themes without restrictions.
Franchise Mode
Lastly, we have franchise mode, which allows you to join other theme park management aficionados, share your unique park, and even participate in light competitive gameplay by scoring high on the leaderboard—or, at the very least, try to score high.
Oh, and a super cool feature in franchise mode is that you can explore a buddy’s park in first-person!
