There’s an argument to be made that we have far too many post-apocalyptic first-person shooters, and I hear the loud voices shouting about the subgenre. With the likes of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and Fallout, why would you need anything else? Variety is the spice of life, after all. The latest Pioner gameplay trailer, dubbed ‘The Frontier’, showcases why we’re so excited for this post-apocalyptic shooter, coming to Steam late this year.
The new gameplay trailer, as shown above, unveils plenty of first-person gameplay as the character on screen delves into the post-apocalyptic world, fighting both humans and mutants with a broad range of weapons. We get a better look at the environments, along with a handful of anomalies, but it’s primarily the frantic gunplay that takes center stage here.
What is Pioner?
PIONER is an open-world MMO first-person shooter set in a haunting, alternative-reality world where Soviet-era structures lie abandoned on a desolate, post-apocalyptic island. In this immersive environment, the gameplay experience is defined by dynamic PvE and PvP elements, where realism takes priority over traditional health bars or character levels. With a sprawling map of 50+ square kilometers, not counting hidden dungeons, players can explore a world rich with mystery and danger, encountering story quests and faction missions that influence relationships and loyalty rewards.
According to the studio, a Pioner open beta will begin sometime in October. But if you can’t wait, you can request access to the upcoming Pioner playtest via the game’s official Steam page.
