At the beginning of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, you’ll find yourself running into trouble with a Toad named Zess T in Rogueport. No matter what, Mario will eventually step and break her contact, and she’ll proceed to block a whole area of Rougeport until you replace it. How to Buy Contact Lens in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
After Mario breaks Zess T’s Contact Lens, she’ll block off the entire west side of Rogueport until you buy a replacement. Luckily, you can buy a Contact Lens from the Item Shop. However, when you talk to the Toad in the shop, he’ll explain that they have none in stock and must order one for you.
This means you’ll have to wait a while for the lens to ship and come to the store. After you place your order, continue with the story until you defeat Hooktail and complete Chapter 1. Once you obtain the first Crystal Star, you’ll return to Rogueport and receive an email from the Item Shop stating that the Contact Lens came in.

When you return to the Item Shop, the Contact Lens will be on the item shelf for 10 Coins. After you purchase the lens, return it to Zess T and give it to her. She’ll then move away from the archway and into her house. This will unlock the west side of Rogueport and the ability to have Zess T cook items for you.
