There’s a lot to do in Palia, one of these things are the vaults. There are four different vaults you can unlock throughout the game. The first vault you’ll unlock is the Vault of Waves. You gain access to this after completing the Night Sky Temple with Jina early on in the game.
The Vault of Waves has four different sections in it and each section has its own items you need to find or make.
Vault of Waves: Part One
For this first section, you need to locate and catch four different bugs and fish. These creatures include a garden mantis, a vampire crab, a mutated angler, and a void ray.
Before you hunt for any bugs, make sure you have plenty of bombs ready for your bug pouch. The basic ones should do; you can make or purchase them from Auni.
Garden Mantis
The first bug in this section is the garden mantis. This will be the easiest one to find and catch. To find it, go to Kilima Valley and look along the coasts where Einar hangs out. The garden mantis will be a green hopping bug. It’ll only take 1-3 bombs to catch it.
Vampire Crab
The second bug in this vault is the vampire crab. This one takes a little bit more work. First, I recommend bringing some honeycomb, which will attract all the bugs in the surrounding area to you. You can either make this by purchasing the recipe from Auni or buying them directly from Auni.
Once you have the honeycomb and plenty of smoke bombs, head to Bahari Bay. This crab can only be found in the flooded fortress between 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. in the game. Once the time slot for it to spawn starts, I recommend catching every crab you see. This will allow more crabs to spawn.
A final tip for finding the vampire crab is to be patient. I was able to find one in one Palia night.
Mutated Angler
To catch the mutated angler, you’ll need worms. You can get worms by making them in the worm bin, the recipe can be purchased from Einar, or purchasing them directly from Einar. I recommend bringing about 100 worms. You probably won’t need that much, but it’ll prevent you from having to grab more.
Next, there are only two places to catch the mutated angler. The first one is Zeki’s Underground in Kilima Valley or the mines in Bahari Bay. I prefer going to Zeki’s Underground to catch this fish. It’s easier to get to, and there’s not as much space, so there’s less reeling in to do.
Void Ray
Catching the void ray is very similar to the mutated angler. The only difference is that you need glow worms instead of regular worms. You can get glow worms by purchasing them from Einar or using the glow worm bin; the recipe can be bought from Einar.
I recommend bringing around 50 glow worms; this should be plenty. The void ray can also be found in Zeki’s Underground or the mines. Again, I recommend Zeki’s Underground instead of the mines because I think it’s a little easier.
Vault of Waves: Part Two
The second part of the Vault of Waves will require a little more work and time. You need a green pearl, stripe-shell snail, blue marlin, and sushi for this one.
Green Pearl
The green pearl is a rare item that you can find from unopened oysters. For this, you’ll have to head to Bahari Bay and travel to the coast, where unopened oysters spawn.
This is where it gets boring and becomes a waiting game. You must travel around the coast, collect unopened oysters, and open them. I recommend waiting to open them until you’re back on your housing plot to save inventory space. Keep repeating this process until you open one that gives you a green pearl.
Stripe Shell Snail
This rare bug can be found along the coastline of Bahari Bay between 6:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. As with the bugs before, I recommend bringing a honeycomb to attract all the bugs in the area.
I would also make sure to bring plenty of smoke bombs so you can catch every bug, allowing more to spawn. Once you find a stripe shell snail, it should only take 1-4 regular smoke bombs to catch it.
Blue Marlin
The blue marlin is a rare fish that can also be found along the Bahari Bay coast, along with unopened oysters and stripe shell snails. You can find the blue marlin at any time of the day, but make sure you have enough worms to catch one. About 100 of them should be more than enough to get one.
Sushi
This is the most challenging item to get for this bundle. Unlike other recipes, which can be bought from Reth or found in residents’ houses, you must fish this one up.
The sushi recipe can only be caught using glow worms when fishing in a pond. In Palia, a pound is defined as any small body of water without connection to other bodies of water. I have been going to Mirror Pond, where you can find Jina and Hekla.
Be prepared to do a lot of fishing when getting the recipe. My tips for this part are to make sure you always have glow worms being made on your farm so you don’t run out, as it will take a lot. Obtaining the sushi recipe can take anywhere between five and 300 glow worms, depending on your luck.
Vault of Waves: Part Three
The third part of this vault requires an inky dragonfly, quality trout dinner, hydrate pro fertilizer, and a giant goldfish.
Inky Dragonfly
Inky dragonflies can be found at any time in Bahari Bay. They’ll be flying around the rivers and ponds.
For this, I recommend bringing about 50 bombs. This should be more than enough because I find that inky dragonflies spawn quickly. As with catching other bugs, catch everything that spawns to allow more bugs to spawn.
Quality Trout Dinner
To get the recipe for trout dinner, you need to get Einar to at least level three in friendship to unlock his key. Once you have his key, you’ll be able to enter his room, and the recipe for trout dinner will be on one of the barrels on the left.
Once you have the recipe, you’ll need to start gathering the ingredients and ensure you have an oven, stove, and prep station available. The ingredients you’ll need are any fish, any spice, a potato, and wild garlic. When collecting these ingredients, make sure they have a star on the upper right corner of the icon.
The star on the icons indicates that it’s a quality ingredient, which is what is needed to make the quality trout dinner. Whenever you’re foraging, there’s a chance to get quality ingredients. I recommend picking up everything you find, and you should get them quickly.
There is a chance you’ll get a quality crop whenever you harvest. You can also use quality up fertilizer, which can be crafted at level five of gardening, or put sweet dishes into worm bins.
Finally, to catch quality trout, whenever you’re fishing, make sure you cast your line into the bubbles that appear at the top of the water. Catching fish from these spots is the only way to get quality fish. You can also use a tuning fork, which can be crafted or bought from Einar, to attract the bubbles.
Once you have all of the quality ingredients, go to the stove to start the recipe. Make sure you click the box at the bottom of the screen that says, “use quality ingredients.” Then follow the steps, and you’ll have a quality trout dinner.
Hydrate Pro Fertilizer
Hydrate Pro Fertilizer is easy to get. Ensure you have 40 gold and head to Zeki’s general store. Next, head over to the register inside the building and purchase the fertilizer.
Giant Goldfish
Catching the giant goldfish isn’t too difficult either. Make sure you have about 50 glow worms, head to any pond, and start casting. This won’t take too long; just be patient and keep casting.
Vault of Waves: Part Four
This is the final section of the Vault of Waves before completing it. The items you’ll need for this are fisherman’s brew, enchanted pupfish, shimmerfin, and a unicorn fish.
Fisherman’s Brew
To unlock this recipe, you need to be level five in fishing. Once you reach level five, you can purchase the recipe from Einar.
The only piece of equipment you’ll need to make this is a campfire. You’ll need emerald carpet moss and a crystal lake lotus.
Emerald carpet moss and crystal lake lotuses grow around the coast of Kilima Valley. Emerald carpet moss grows on the shore, and crystal lake lotuses grow in shallow parts of the water.
Once you have the ingredients, head over to your campfire, select fisherman’s brew, and then wait about 5 seconds.
Enchanted Pupfish
The enchanted pupfish can be found anywhere along the coast of Kilima Valley. To catch it, you’ll need glow worms. I recommend bringing about 50, then head over to the coast and start fishing.
Shimmerfin
Catching the shimmerfin is similar to the enchanted pupfish, you’ll need worms instead of glow worms. I recommend bringing about 50 worms before starting your fishing journey.
Unicorn Fish
A unicorn fish is the final item you’ll need to complete this bundle and vault. The unicorn fish can only be caught on the coasts of Bahari Bay between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in the game. You’ll also need a lot of glow worms for this as well. I recommend bringing about 100.
Catching this will be similar to trying to get the sushi recipe: It will require a lot of time, patience, and fishing.
Final Tips
Completing the vaults will take time, patience, and glow worms. I have a few tips for completing the Vault of Waves.
My first tip is to have at least four glow worm bins and constantly fill them. You will go through a lot of glow worms when trying to gather everything, and it’ll be much easier if you have some to come back to every time your inventory is filled.
My second tip is to take it one step at a time instead of trying to take everything head-on. This will make it easier to lock in on one thing and focus on it one step at a time.
My final tip is to move on to the next item if one is too hard. It can get frustrating trying to get a rare item that seems impossible, so taking a break from it and moving on to something else can be a nice refresher before coming back to it.
