In Ostranauts, you play as the captain of a spaceship with complete freedom in how you want to approach the game. Scavenge. Trade. Fight. Socialize. Hire a crew. Design your ship. Take gigs. You can do all that in a completely interactive world. Scavenging is the primary method of generating funds in Ostranauts. The world, or to be pedantic, the solar system, is littered with derelict ships of various sizes. Today, we will give you tips on generating the most money as a salvager in Ostranauts.
Condition is Key
Like Neo Scavenger, the condition of an item determines its price. By default, while hovering over an item, press “X” for a quick overview of an item’s condition. Right-click on an item to open a more detailed description on the right side of the screen. Right-clicking will also open the interaction menu at the bottom of the screen.
When exploring derelicts, try to prioritize items in good condition to maximize your profit. Alternatively, if you have the tools and resources, you can opt to repair items to increase their price. Currently, the repair process is automatic. Your character will automatically use the appropriate tools and resources if they are nearby. This approach is mainly viable when dealing with more expensive items like reactors and navigation consoles.
To repair an item, right-click the item and select the repair option from the menu at the bottom of the screen. When opting to repair, the game will give you a list of all the necessary components.
Prioritize
In Ostranauts, an entire ship can be broken down into individual parts. Some parts of a ship are more valuable than others. Typically, the components that are essential to navigation.
Here are some of the best items you can find on a derelict. Price is based on conditions.
- IC Fusion Reactor – Can be sold for around 52,000 dollars.
- Polaris Standard Navigation Console – Can be sold for around 12,000 dollars.
- RCS Intake Regular: Miura “Hydra” – Can be sold for around 12,000 dollars.
- Bingham – 12B EVA Suit – Can be sold for around 2,000 dollars.
- Liq. He Canister – Can be sold for around 1,800 dollars.
- Renbao “Portal” PDA – It may be sold for around 2,000 dollars, depending on the contents.
- Turbo Air Pump – Can be sold for around 933 dollars.
Check the vendors in the game’s first hub, OKLG, to see which items are in high demand. Remember that you’ll need to uninstall the parts you want to sell. To uninstall an item, select it with a right-click and then pick the uninstall option at the bottom of the screen. You need the appropriate tool to uninstall items.
Optimize Your Storage
The number of items you can salvage from derelicts depends on your ship’s size and whatever containers you have. For items and structures, Ostranauts uses a grid system. Different containers can store different amounts and types of loot. Scrap and tools are easily carried in your hands and whatever backpack you’ve got equipped. Heavier items like gas canisters and reactors need to be dragged.
For small loot, try to get several backpacks on your ship. Backpacks currently occupy only 1 square of space and can store a decent amount of small loot, such as PDAs, foods, clothing, weapons, and scrap.

Know Your Vendors
In OKLG, the game’s central hub, there are three ways to sell your salvage.
There are two kiosks in the Port Azikiwe section of OKLG. The Port is the docking bay for the player’s ship. Players can pay their fees, purchase fuel and supplies, and sell salvage. The regular supply kiosk is used in the early game to sell low-value loot parts and scrap. The licensed kiosk is for players who have purchased a temporary license, allowing them to scavenge and sell high-value loot with no problem.
The third trader is in the Old Emporium Mescaform Bar, accessible via the transit system. They are called a Fixer and are the face of the black market. To trade with them, the player has to convince them via the social combat mechanic. Get on their good side; show them you’re trustworthy. Once convinced, they will be willing to trade. However, the demand and availability of items can vary greatly.
It’s wise to use social combat on the Fixer to sell high-value loot early and get a salvage permit. Players who do not want to use social combat on the Fixer can use the regular supply kiosk to sell enough low-tier salvage till they have enough for a permit. Monitor the market and be sure to keep your tools in good condition.
