No More Room In Hell 2 Is Improving, But There’s Still A Lot Needed

No More Room In Hell 2 recently received a major update. Needless to say, the game has had some massive changes between now and launch. The update is substantial, but for the sake of brevity, here are the most noticeable positives and some lingering negatives.

THE GOOD, GOOD, AND VERY GOOD

The update focuses primarily on balance and a bit of extra content, such as:

  • There are two additional guns, a shotgun and a semi-automatic rifle.
  • You can now toggle firing modes for some guns, making it easier to decide if you want to go with finesse or brute force your way.
  • There are an additional 15 skills. Some skills are straight upgrades, while others come with a drawback.
  • Push to talk is the default option in voice chat, with the voice chat system being a bit more reliable.
  • Zombies have been slightly reworked. Now they are meant to spawn further away from players and have their spawn rates decreased on Classic difficulty. Now, the more zombies you kill, the slower they will respawn.
  • Slash attacks have been reworked. Before the update, dismembering the legs of a zombie was a quick and easy way to finish it off or escape. With the right angle, you could dismember a group of zombies with one slash, making it super easy to cheese some sections. It now takes much more effort to dismember a zombie’s legs, and dismembering crowds is far less likely. Crawling zombies have also received a minor attack buff.
  • Closing and opening doors is much less finicky now.
  • You’re less likely to get stuck in some areas.
  • In the gym, where you must survive waves of zombies, the areas where you could climb and cheese the encounter have been removed.
  • There are over a hundred general bug fixes, making the experience much smoother.

THE BAD, BAD, AND REALLY BAD!

While there is a great deal of improvement between now and launch, there are still some things that…need a bit of work. Or to be put in. Currently, the most glaring issues are:

  • Character customization is still lacking. You can’t customize your character besides selecting skills and loadouts.
  • Throwing grenades and pipe bombs can still be finicky. Your character might cancel the throw mid-animation.
  • There’s still little control as to what maps and difficulty you’re going to be put in. Or lobby customization for that matter, like mic/no mic lobbies.
  • No training or dedicated solo mode to get a feel before playing with other people. If you’re marketing your game as unforgiving, allowing players to practice will alleviate a lot of frustration.
  • Monitoring the progression of infection is still somewhat unreliable.
  • Some surfaces that you should be able to climb on or vault, you can’t.
  • Some tasks might be buggy. I had to put on a power breaker in the church, and the breaker didn’t spawn, making it impossible to complete the task and access the supply room.
  • Items can still clip into the environment, rendering them impossible to obtain.
