Menace Mechanics

Core Gameplay Loop

At its forefront, Menace requires players to take command of an offensive strike force, recruiting and organizing squads of various specializations, equipping units with weapons and armor, and choosing missions from across the remote star system.

While on a mission, players will deploy units into turn-based tactical combat, manage losses, acquire upgrades, and expand operations by improving the Impetus before growing alien and human threats alike spread across the system.

Combat Mechanics

On the ground, Menace focuses on squad-based tactics, cover and positioning mechanics, vehicle support, and tactical ability usage. If players command their forces sloppily, sending squads into the heat of combat recklessly, without cover, they’re liable to lose units fast.

The battles in Menace feel simulation-driven and reactive, with a mission’s outcome shaped by positioning, equipment, and thorough planning beforehand.

Strategic Layer

Zooming out, Menace tasks players with managing squad leaders and reinforcements, allocating equipment and resources, choosing which missions to tackle, and balancing risk versus reward. Players have limited resources, including manpower, and throwing units into the meat grinder leads to a ‘game over’ screen more often than not.

Beginner Tips & Common Mistakes

  • Avoid spreading your squads too thin. Multiple lines of fire will take down enemy forces faster and with fewer casualties.
  • Prioritize cover and positioning. Standing out in the open while under fire is an excellent way to lose your favorite squad. Take cover, return fire, and move strategically.
  • As you complete missions, gaining resources and rewards, gradually upgrade your equipment to ensure your forces become more powerful.
  • Protect your experience units in battle. They’ll be your primary fighting force when taking objectives and defeating larger enemies.
