As a survival game, Lost Rift tasks you with keeping yourself alive while stranded on an island out in the middle of nowhere. It’s like any other survival crafting game in the genre. Like others in the subgenre, you require food and water to survive, along with shelter from the elements. Unfortunately, food proves scarce. Here’s how to cook food in Lost Rift to gain significant buffs and keep your hunger meter in check!
How to Cook Food in Lost Rift

First and foremost, use your Primitive Hammer to construct a Fire Pit. While it works outside and without cover, if you want to cook efficiently, keep it out of the elements.

Once you have the Fire Pit successfully placed, add a fuel source at the bottom grid. You can add Wood, Sticks, or Natural Coal. You’ll likely have an abundance of Wood and Sticks initially, so drop a small stack of either into the grid and let it cook.

Once you have your Fuel in place, insert raw food into the ‘Input’ side of the crafting section on the right-hand side. With Fuel and raw materials, crafting will automatically begin. It’s a slow process, outputting cooked food that satisfies hunger and boosts your health and, occasionally, immunity to the elements.
As food cooks, however, keep in mind that it does wear down your fuel source. You may need to occasionally top up your Wood or Sticks.

Where to Find Food to Cook

You’re stranded on an island, so your best bet for finding any reliable source of food is either foraging or hunting. The latter will net you the most bang for your buck, but you’ll want to craft a bow at a Workbench.
Once you have a reliable, preferably long-range weapon, go ahead and venture out beyond your base and look for:
- Crabs
- Dodos
Occasionally, you may find corpses, like the Hyena at the start of the dock by Wade Davis on the starter island. You can loot the corpses for raw meat, which you may then cook in the Fire Pit.
