You just crashlanded on a mysterious island, it’s storming, and there’s a small horde of dodo birds roaming the island that look mischievous. What now? How do you survive? Well, for starters, you must follow the carefully laid out questline to help you gain your footing. But this is a survival crafting game. You’re independent and don’t want to listen to tutorials, right?! Well, we can help. Here’s how to build a roof in Lost Rift so the elements and whatever else is roaming the islands don’t drop in on your head!
How to Build a Roof in Lost Rift
When constructing your first base, it tasks you with placing down flooring and walls and all that fun stuff, just so you have a comfortable place to call home. But what about the roof? Are you meant to sleep in the rain? No!

When you open up the building menu, using the hammer, you’ll open the ‘Base Building’ menu by expanding the interface with ‘B.’ From there, you have multiple options. You can choose to use a floor piece or one of the ramp pieces to construct a roof; either one will work, though the ramp pieces tend to leave large gaps, and they’re a bit of a pain to position.

Personally, I don’t mind the flat look, especially on an early-game base. It’s enough just to have something over your head to protect against the rain.

When positioning the floor or ramp piece, ensure you have it lined up correctly. I can’t tell you the number of times I tried to place the blueprint, only to discover it was off-center. I had to redo the construction and then hammer my materials in place.
Furthermore, as you progress deeper into the game, you will unlock additional materials and base-building blueprints, allowing you to construct bigger, better, and stronger bases. You’ll inevitably unlock additional roof pieces that look better and protect you more.
