Is The Outlast Trials worth it? When you look at the gaming landscape, you’ll find a metric ton of live service video games offering battle passes and microtransaction stores, and they cost $69.99 as a barrier to entry on top of the nickel-and-diming in the game. But then you have a game like The Outlast Trials, a single-player and cooperative horror game with a ton of replayability for almost half the price. Is it worth playing?
Should You Play The Outlast Trials?
With a price tag of just $39.99, going by the ancient dollar per hour of game time method of measurement, you can easily score 40 hours on a single character in The Outlast Trials. But much of the game revolves around becoming Reborn and beginning anew as a fresh Reagent.
With that in mind, if you’re into survival horror—single-player or multiplayer—then The Outlast Trials is, in my eyes, one of the best cooperative horror games available right now.
While the objectives within each Trial don’t change, their locations and that of the enemies do alter with each run. It’s fresh, and the team you play with dramatically influences the overall experience. Will you succeed running with a pub team? Does your competent squad of friends work cohesively or screw each other over? There’s much to consider.
If you don’t mind a bit of gore, and by a bit, I mean a lot, then The Outlast Trials offers one of the most immersive, thrilling, and downright terrifying horror experiences in recent memory.

How Does The Outlast Trials Play?
As a captive of the Murkoff Corporation, you’ll play as a Reagent in The Outlast Trials. You’re essentially a patient in an insane asylum, but they’re running tests, known as Trials, on you to explore your survivability and the viability of their products and experiments.
Every Trial features unique objectives. You’ll restart the generators in an old police station, shut down propaganda in an orphanage, and saw the legs off a man. It’s positively wild, and the game routinely goes balls-to-the-wall as you frantically run for your life from the various enemies, like the Skinner Man!
