I’m generally not one to play PvP-focused games. I am not super competitive these days, and even when I hop into a fast-paced shooter like Call of Duty, I play for fun and rarely for the win. But in an extraction shooter, that all changes. I’m making it out with my loot! So, is Gray Zone Warfare PvP?
Is Gray Zone Warfare PvP?
Yes, Gray Zone Warfare heavily focuses on PvP interactions. While it’s possible to skirt around firefights with other players, should you choose to play carefully and calmly, chances are high that you’ll engage another player group at some point. It’s inevitable.
Furthermore, though PvP is a heavy focus, it doesn’t appear to be the sole focus of the extraction shooter. Instead, you’ll insert deep into the island, hit up various points of interest to complete your mission objectives, which involve AI enemies guarding points, and then extract with your loot.
It’s unclear whether this is full-loot PvP in Gray Zone Warfare, though it’s highly likely. The studio will probably look to titles such as Escape From Tarkov for inspiration on crucial mechanics.

Will Gray Zone Warfare Have PvE?
Alongside the player encounters you will inevitably fight through in Gray Zone Warfare, the game offers a lot of PvE content. From what we’ve seen in gameplay videos and developer discussions, much of the combat revolves around fighting AI.
When you enter the hot zone, you’ll likely encounter AI enemies guarding points of interest and mission objectives. Your goal is to take them out quickly and quietly, if possible, without alerting other players nearby. In that regard, it’s similar to Hunt: Showdown.
Update: Word from the recent content creator playtest indicates there is a PvE-only server/mode available for those who would rather not fight anyone else. Furthermore, it appears as if PvP is few and far between during a match.
