Infection Free Zone: How to Assign Workers

Your survivors are the lifeblood of your entire base. Without a competent group of workers, you can’t gather resources, defend yourself at night, or explore the world. They’re the most essential resource. Here’s how to assign workers in Infection Free Zone so that no one sits idly by at the end of the world!

How to Assign Workers in Infection Free Zone

To assign workers in Infection Free Zone, turn your attention to the panel on the bottom left of your HUD, the one with two silhouettes—one filled in with blue and the other empty in black. This is your ‘Citizens’ panel, where you may discern precisely how many survivors you have, how many unemployed individuals are in the colony, the number of squad members, and the various jobs in your base.

If you have any unemployed, now is a good time to assign workers to various roles using the ‘plus’ and ‘minus’ buttons below each position. Ideally, you won’t have anyone unemployed; everyone must pull their weight.

Each time you repurpose an abandoned building into a new structure, like a Research Center, or construct a building of your own, I recommend opening up the Citizens panel to check your workforce. You want people assigned to vital jobs immediately!

Where to Assign Citizens in Infection Free Zone

I recommend prioritizing Guard, Farming, Food Preparation, and Scavenger. Most of these speak for themselves, but Scavenger leaves some with questions. Will these survivors go out and loot buildings? No. Their job is to scavenge resources when you place down a work area to gather Metal, Bricks, or Wood.

You’ll want to play around with your workforce, assigning jobs that you feel are most vital to your colony’s survival. Your options include:

  • Builder
  • Scavenger
  • Farming
  • Food Preparation
  • Guard
  • Factory Worker
  • Scientist
  • Nurse

When you form a new squad, it pulls from the unemployed and Scavenger pool, reducing your overall workforce. It’s essential to find a balance.
