Increase Your Supply of Cloth in RimWorld

When running a prosperous economy in RimWorld, you need a few things: cloth, steel, and components. These three key materials can help even a budding colony flourish. But some items may elude players, like cloth. Where do you get cloth in RimWorld?

What is Cloth in RimWorld?

First and foremost, cloth is a plant-based fabric that players can grow by planting a cotton plant in a farm plot. Once harvested, you may use cloth to craft clothing and other items, like sandbags and carpets.

For every cotton plant harvested, you’ll receive 10 white cloth. But how about colored cloth? Of course! But you can only receive colored cloth from a merchant; it cannot be crafted. Also, cloth, no matter the color, will deteriorate if left outside for too long.

Furthermore, like in the real world, cloth is highly flammable. In fact, in RimWorld, it is 20% more flammable than other textiles in the game.

Where Do You Get Cloth in RimWorld?

There are two key methods to farm cloth in RimWorld. You can do just that, farm it from cotton plants. Or, you can buy it from traders. These are the only two ways to get cloth in the game, at least for now.

Buying cloth is straightforward. You trade silver for cloth when a trader stops by the colony. Most players will sell excess cloth instead of buying any, though. In a pinch, especially in the early game, buying a bit of cloth from a wandering caravan is viable.

Can You Make Clothes in RimWorld?

To successfully produce clothing, especially before the winter months strike, you need a crafting spot or a tailor’s bench and the proper materials, such as cloth or leather.

Numerous bills in the game allow you to craft clothing using cloth, including shirts, jackets, pants, hats, and more. Your colonists will need such clothing to keep warm.

Tip: You only need enough clothing for your colonists. Articles of clothing aren’t too lucrative, so making excess and selling to a trader doesn’t make much sense.

Now that you have a lock on resources such as cloth, don’t forget to feed your colony. Can you survive RimWorld on nutrient paste?
