There are all manner of fish and monstrosities to catch in Dredge; all but the smallest of coastal fish require specialized rods and equipment to net. For example, if you want to catch lucrative abyssal fish, you’ll need to learn how to get an Abyssal Rod in Dredge. It’s not easy, but it’s not overly complex, either. Here’s how to do it!
How to Unlock the Abyssal Rod in Dredge
Players need to track down a few Research Parts while working with the Researcher at the Old Fortress in Stellar Basin to unlock the Abyssal Fishing Rod in Depth and the Hadal Fishing Rod. She’ll provide you with the Sampling Device, which allows you to catch Abyssal fish. Furthermore, receiving the Sampling Device also unlocks the ability to research Bottomless Lines, which can capture both Abyssal and Hadal. It’s a pretty helpful upgrade!
To unlock the Sampling Device, speak with the Researcher in North Stellar Basin. She’ll ask you to collect samples, including:
- Glowing Octopus
- Aurora Jellyfish
- Firefly Squid
These three aquatic creatures can only be caught at night and do not require any specific order. Turn each one in as you find them!
Once all three samples are returned to the Researcher, she’ll ask you to visit the Outpost inside the island ring again. Here, you’ll collect the Prototype Parts, which take up two slots on your boat, and return them to the Researcher. She’ll then provide you with the Sampling Device while requesting additional aquatic samples from the depths.

Where Are the Abyssal Fish in Dredge?
With an Abyssal Rod purchased and installed on your boat, tracking down these lucrative and illustrious monsters of the depths is time.
To find abyssal fish in Dredge, start your journey in Stellar Basin, to the northwest of the map, around the Old Fortress island. Around the area, you’ll note extremely deep portions; some of these are Hadal, and some are Abyssal. Once you unlock the Bottomless Lines, it won’t matter because you can catch both.
Furthermore, while on adventures in the deep ocean, you’ll occasionally come across Abyssal fishing spots with potentially lucrative catches!
