Early Access on Steam is generally a mixed bag, especially within the survival genre. You have projects with astounding success, like Project Zomboid or 7 Days to Die, and then you have way too many flops to list. It’s made people somewhat jaded. This is why we’re all curious to know precisely how long Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days Early Access lasts!
How Long is Into the Dead Early Access?
If you’re on the fence about games, especially zombie survival games, in Early Access, fret not. Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days plans on remaining in Early Access, with major updates every few weeks, for approximately one year, eighteen months at the most.
In the grand scheme of things, a single year in Early Access isn’t the worst, as we’ve witnessed firsthand just how long some survival titles remain in active development on Steam.

Checking Out the Into the Dead: Our Darkest Days Roadmap

As you can see, developer PikpPok is planning a rather extensive zombie survival game with additional characters, survivors, shelters, weapons, improvements across the board, an infection mechanic, combat improvements, and more.
The first major update, coming sometime in May, includes:
- Curveballs: Environmental and world events that affect your game in positive or negative ways.
- Zombified Survivors: Should you die out on a run, you may encounter your deceased survivor as a zombie.
- Starting Shelter: A brand-new starting shelter, allowing for greater exploration of the surrounding area.
- Throwables: Additional throwables, including offensive, explosive, and distractions.
- Door Barging: Yes! When sprinting, we’ll be able to bash through a door and keep on moving, no matter what’s on the other side.
