Gray Zone Warfare Mechanics
Core Gameplay
Gray Zone Warfare allows players to select a PMC—Mithras Security Systems, Lamang Recovery Initiative, and Crimson Shield International—and then customize a mercenary before deploying into the jungles of Lamang. From the faction base, players may accept tasks from vendors, equip weapons and body armor, before taking a helicopter out into the hot zone to fight hostiles and collect loot.
Combat & Realism
GZW features real-world weapon handling, with varied recoil, penetration, and hit-detection depth for ultimate realism. With a variety of weapons, ranging from the iconic M4A1 to the AKMN to the rapid-firing MP7A2, players have immense choice regarding loadouts and playstyles.
With the right weapon in hand, players must also consider tactical positioning, suppression, and sound awareness to defeat foes.
Progression
A growing list of missions from faction vendors offers XP, resources, and rewards to aid in progression across Lamang. Players run the risk of losing said rewards, however, by failing out in the world beyond the faction base. If players die while on a mission, they risk losing loot and equipment.
The game’s roadmap hints at deeper faction warfare, evolving challenges, and greater progression systems.

Beginner Tips & Common Mistakes
- While Gray Zone Warfare does allow for solo play, it’s usually best to work with a partner or squad to complete tasks. Even if you must meet up with another group or player out in the field, help out your fellow PMCs, and, for the most part, they’ll return the favor.
- You’ll want a functional microphone in Gray Zone Warfare. VOIP is a significant part of the experience, with crystal-clear communications helping facilitate some of the best gameplay moments.
- Focus on completing tasks for the various vendors, as you’ll unlock additional gear by increasing their reputation. Plus, they pay well. You’ll earn cash and items as rewards for finishing quests in the game.
- It’s occasionally cheaper to build a weapon from scratch than to buy a pre-made assault rifle in Gray Zone Warfare. Don’t be terrified of the game’s weapon customization and building mechanics; just read the descriptions and take your time.
