While we’re closing in on the release date for Dune Awakening, there are still questions we all need and want answers to, specifically regarding the game’s multiplayer. Can you play solo? How many players per server? Can you group up with others in a party system? Here’s what we know about multiplayer in Dune Awakening!
Dune Awakening Multiplayer As We Know It
We know that Dune Awakening heavily focuses on multiplayer, with a player-driven economy, PvPvE gameplay, and massive servers designed with MMO-like encounters. But those are the basics. Here’s what we actually know about the game’s multiplayer components!
How many players per server in Dune Awakening?
While we don’t yet have official confirmation, Dune Awakening is said to allow 40 players per shard and 1,000 players per server, similar to Diablo IV.
Can you play Dune Awakening solo?
You can play Dune Awakening entirely solo, but it will prove a much more challenging experience. Think of it as going at it alone in Rust, in which you’re facing off against clans of Korean farmers and PvPers who will roll through your land with reckless abandon. If you’re alone, who is watching your back?
Can you group up with other players in Dune Awakening?
If you’d rather group up with other players on the server, creating a sense of shard-based camaraderie, you absolutely can. You can form groups of an unknown size, likely around four or so, and venture across Arrakis. You can even build a base together!

Is Dune Awakening PvP or PvE?
Dune Awakening does feature PvP gameplay, but it’s not a requirement. Specific regions across the game world are designated as PvP zones, and once inside, you’re tagged for PvP. You’re a non-combatant and ineligible for PvP if you’re outside such zones.
Does Dune Awakening have offline play?
Unfortunately, no. Dune Awakening is an always-online experience with a heavy focus on multiplayer, and, as such, you cannot play offline. We might see a mod in the future, so fingers crossed!
Do you lose your gear upon dying in Dune Awakening?
It all depends on how and where you die in the game. If you die in a PvP zone, other players can loot your corpse and take your gear and the valuables in your inventory. It’s a gamble; high risk and high reward. However, if you die outside a PvP zone, you drop your gathered items, like crafting resources, but keep your equipment.
Oh, and if you’re swallowed by a worm, don’t expect to get any of your gear back. It’s gone!
