Dota 2 has a lot of different Heroes, providing players with unique ways to tackle matches. However, not all Heroes have the same learning curve. Some are situational—others less so. Today we’re going to discuss some of the most straightforward (based on personal experience) Heroes in Dota 2 for beginners to play!
Sniper – Safe Distance Fighting
Sniper is a low complexity Hero and is considered by many as the easiest Carry in the game.
There are two reasons for that. Range and projectile type. Sniper’s playstyle is all about withering enemies from a safe distance. Not having to attack head-on means he won’t be putting himself in situations where the enemy can cast spells on him. His ultimate deals a devastating amount of damage, can target enemies from a long range and requires no skill to use. It’s super easy to finish off enemies with his ultimate.
Most projectiles in the game have a travel speed. However, because Sniper’s weapon fires bullets, the impact is instant. For players not familiar with Dota 2, this doesn’t seem like much. However, what this effectively means is that he can secure last hits more easily because there’s no travel speed to account, only attack rate. Combine that with a high attack speed, and he can mow down waves of Creeps and enemy Heroes.
Sniper is a very safe Hero to play. There’s very little need to take risks with him—simply fight from the sidelines and farm.
Zeus – Maximum Spell Spam
Zeus is one of the most powerful Nukers in the game.
His playstyle revolves around dealing huge amounts of magical damage. His Arc Lightning allows him to easily damage groups of enemies, making it incredibly useful in team fights and farming. Lightning Bolt not only deals a generous amount of damage but it mini stuns, provides temporary vision, and reveals wards and hidden enemies. It also does not require aiming as it can snap onto the nearest enemy when targeted on the ground.
His easy approach is rounded up with his two global abilities. In Dota 2, a global ability is an ability that can be cast anywhere on the map. His ultimate, Thundergod’s Wrath, strikes all enemy Heroes with lightning and reveals invisible enemies. Acquiring Aghanim’s Scepter unlocks the Nimbus ability, allowing him to create a storm cloud anywhere on the map that hits enemies with lightning. Being able to damage and possibly kill enemies from anywhere on the map is incredibly useful.
With Zeus, spamming spells is the name of the game. And spamming spells is very, very easy.

Bristleback – Endless Brawl
Bristleback is one of the best Durable Heroes in the game. He’s also one of the easiest Durable Heroes to play.
Bristleback’s basic arsenal makes it incredibly easy to farm and sustain fights. His base abilities are two spells with low cooldowns and two passives. Quill Spray damages all enemies around him; no need to aim. Very useful for team fights or when just trying to kill Creeps during the early game. Viscous Nasal Goo weakens enemies and slows them down, opening the door for a kill. The Bristleback passive reduces damage received from the sides and the rear as well as shooting a Quill Spray after a damage threshold. Warpath increases his movement speed and damage whenever he casts a spell, encouraging players to spam Quill Spray and Viscous Nasal Goo as much as possible.
His durability and offensive spells make it very easy to put pressure on the enemy.
Riki – Silent Assasin
Riki is one of the few Dota 2 heroes with built-in invisibility.
Heroes with invisibility can provide map awareness and set up ganks. They also add a lot of pressure on the enemy team, requiring them to be constantly vigilant and to invest in sentries and Dust of Appearance. Unlike other invisibility heroes like Nyx Assassin and Bounty Hunter, Riki’s invisibility is automatic once he unlocks Cloak and Dagger. His Blink Strike and Tricks of the Trade are incredibly useful for engaging enemies or escaping. A decent Riki can easily take down Supports and low-health Heroes.
Riki’s escape mechanisms encourage players to be as opportunistic as possible. It’s very easy to take risks when your Hero is built around stealthy play.
Witch Doctor
Witch Doctor has always been one of the most powerful Support Heroes in the game. This is because he can sustain the team while discouraging his enemies from taking risks. Paralyzing Cask mini stuns, deals damage, and jumps between enemies, giving him time to cast Maledict and Death Ward.
Maledict is his trickiest spell. It affects enemies in a small radius, dealing damage per second and extra damage based on the amount of health they lost during Maledict’s initiation. The more health the enemy lost, the more damage they will receive. Death Ward allows him to channel a powerful ward which currently deals Pure damage, a damage type that cannot be negated unless the enemy has universal damage reduction. Voodoo Restoration restores health to allies next to the Witch Doctor.
His entire spell combo is about punishing enemies during team fights. Stun if the enemy initiates, then punish them with Maledict and Death Ward. Simple and incredibly powerful.
